ANN NIU

Born in Shanghai, Ann Niu started learning Calligraphy and Chinese ink painting at age 5, by following the masters. She spent her whole childhood studying and practicing as a youth calligrapher. As a teenager, she started learning western oil painting. After studying at the Art Collage in Shanghai, she went to Japan in 1989, where she graduated from the Tokyo Musashino Fine Art University, Department of Design, in 1995. She lived in Korea & the United States, from 1995 to 2000, when Niu returned home to Shanghai and established a studio, doing artwork & experimenting with various media. Her style is about painting spontaneous lines with ease and grace. She often likes to explore the theme of “women” and romantic relationships. While her work is very contemporary, it resonates with traditional, oriental soul.

Her work has been shown in China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, France, Holland, and Australia and is collected by The Singapore National Art Museum, HSBC Private Bank (HSBCPB), and various worldwide private collectors.
