Jane Schmitt knew her grandfather, the sculptor Sandu Babeanu whom had disappeared well before her birth, through these little things which shape a character in a child’s imagination.

A cigar box containing sculpture falls, tungsten alloy frozen in random shapes when they crushed on the ground. From this family reliquary, Jane Schmitt has extracted some pieces and created some jewels as a tribute to this stranger whom she nevertheless feels so close to.

For her second collection at IBU Gallery, Jane presents unique pieces based on “family jewels” which she has transformed as well as double rings linked by a chain, necklaces and earrings in silver or vermeil or even sometimes enhances with precious stones.
